Script (book talk 16)
DIFF INTRO
Declan: Hello gadies and lentlemen!
Declan: Today I’m doing a book talk on Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone—aka the book where a kid goes from “sad orphan in a cupboard” to “famous wizard in training.” Big glow-up.
Declan: Harry thinks he’s just a regular kid with terrible relatives, until a giant crashes through the door and is like, “Yer a wizard, Harry.”
Declan: Soon he’s off to Hogwarts, a magical school with moving stairs, secret passageways, and a hat that reads your mind and sorts you into houses.
Declan: He makes friends, battles a troll, plays giant chess, and finds out the darkest wizard ever might be hiding on the back of someone’s head. Not creepy at all.
Declan: I liked this book because it’s got magic, danger, candy frogs, and a golden trio of friends who make you want to go to wizard school too.
Declan: So if you like adventure, mystery, and possibly being attacked by a flying broomstick—this book is for you.
Declan: So grab your library card, cause you’re gonna need it.

Kid: Hello gadies and lentlemen!
Kid: Today I’m doing a book talk on School Days According to Humphrey by Betty G. Birney.
Kid: So—this book is part of the Humphrey series. Humphrey is a classroom hamster, but not just any hamster.
Kid: He’s basically a tiny, furry genius who watches everything in Room 26.
Kid: And in this book, the class is going through a bunch of changes. A new teacher comes in with a totally different style, and the kids start falling behind.
Kid: Humphrey notices everything, and he’s like the silent hero, trying to help students get back on track in his own hamster-y way.
Kid: I liked this book because it shows how everyone learns differently, and how even a little hamster can make a big difference.
Kid: And it’s funny too. Like, imagine your pet judging your test scores and writing notes about it.
Kid: If you like stories with animals, school drama, or just want a quick read that makes you smile—check this one out.
Kid: Plus, there are more books in the series if you end up loving Humphrey like I did.

USED OLD CLIP
Declan: Hello gadies and lentlemen!
Declan: Today I’m doing a book talk on The One and Only Ruby by Katherine Applegate.
Declan: So Ruby is an elephant. Not just any elephant. She’s a small elephant with BIG feelings. Like, elephant-sized feelings.
Declan: She used to live at a zoo, now she’s at a fancy wildlife sanctuary with Ivan the gorilla and Bob the dog—who, by the way, is basically a dog with a PhD in sarcasm.
Declan: There’s this event coming up called Remembering Day. Sounds peaceful, right? Nope. For Ruby, it’s like getting ready for the most emotional school project of her life.
Declan: She has to talk about her past—like, her real past. The sad, messy, “I-don’t-wanna-talk-about-it” stuff.
Declan: She starts freaking out. Like, full-on “I’m not going, and you can’t make me” mode.
Declan: But the book is awesome because Ruby doesn’t just cry in a corner—she faces it. And she learns that telling your story—even the hard parts—can help other animals too.
Declan: Like, imagine your worst memory... then imagine an elephant giving a speech about it. That’s basically this book.
Declan: I liked it because it’s funny and deep at the same time. Like, you’ll be laughing on one page and then be like “WAIT, why am I emotional?” on the next.
Declan: Plus, it reminds you why elephants are known for their memory. Like, Ruby remembers everything from her past... meanwhile, I walk into the kitchen and forget why I’m there.
Declan: Anyway, if you like animals and good stories—you should definitely read The One and Only Ruby.

Declan: (sits blankly; edit: flashes of old book talk)
Declan: Hello gadies and lentlemen
Declan: Today I’m doing a book talk on Troublemaker by Andrew Clements.
Declan: This book is about a kid named Clay who loves making jokes, drawing crazy pictures, and pulling pranks—
Declan: —until one of his pranks gets him in big trouble.
Declan: He decides to change and become a better person, but it's not as easy as it sounds.
Declan: Especially when people around you expect you to be bad.
Declan: What I like about this book is that it’s funny but also real.
Declan: Like, people really can change if they want to.
Declan: And I liked watching Clay try to prove that.
Declan: There’s a part with a sketch he draws of the principal that is just… wow.
Declan: I totally recommend this book if you’ve ever been called a “troublemaker” or if you like stories with humor and heart.
Declan: Plus, it’s by Andrew Clements
Declan: Wait, didn’t he also write Frindle?
Declan: (holding pen, then drops it)
Declan: Anyways, go read Troublemaker. You won’t regret it.

Declan: Hey, uhh Trevor where are you.
Declan: I’m out here
Declan: You said you could film a book talk with me today
Declan: Wait you’re in Florida!
Declan: Forget about it, I haven’t even read the book yet
Declan: Hello gadies and lentlemen.
Declan: Today I will be doing a book talk on Crenshaw by Katherine Applegate.
Declan: I like this book because it’s emotional and meaningful.
Declan: It’s about a boy named Jackson whose family is struggling with money, and he might have to live in a van again.
Declan: Just when things get tough, his old imaginary friend, a giant talking cat named Crenshaw, shows up to help.
Declan: But Jackson doesn’t believe in imaginary friends anymore, so he doesn’t know if Crenshaw is real or if he’s losing his mind.
Declan: This book does a great job of mixing real-life problems with a little bit of magic.
Declan: It shows how important hope and friendship are, even in the hardest times.
Declan: So if you like books that make you think and feel something, I highly recommend Crenshaw.

Declan: Hello gadies and lentlemen

Declan: Minecraft Redstone Handbook
Declan: First off the book has an introduction to red stone
Declan: If you didn’t know what red stone was now you do!
Declan: It also has facts to learn about red stone
Declan: Such as where to find it in the game, how to craft it, how to use it, how a red stone torch works, how a repeater works, how a piston works, how to power a circuit.
Declan: And that’s only 16 pages.
Declan: I like this book because it’s about Minecraft
Declan: I have been playing Minecraft recently and I had been working with red stone, and I never knew I was that bad.
Declan: Why isn't it working (yelling)

Declan: (fake crying)
Declan 2: Today I will be doing a book talk on (BOOK NAME)
Declan: (picks up tripod and leaves)
Declan 2: Now I like this book because it’s unique
Declan 2: In a regular book there is 1 or 2 problems and solutions
Declan 2: But in this book there are multiple problems with solutions that don’t really solve the problem in a way the orphans want it to be solved
Declan 2: Usually at the end of a book everything turns back to normal but not with this book
Declan 2: The book truly is a series of unfortunate events
Declan 2: And this book finishes my questions I had after reading the first book in this series
Declan 2: Such as, who will take care of them, or what will happen next

Declan: Hello gadies and lentlemen
Declan: Today I will be doing a book talk on Diary of a—
Declan: Rowley Jefferson’s Awesome Friendly Spooky Stories.
Declan: I like this book because it’s different.
Declan: Unlike its direct copy, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, the book talks about childish topics that Greg would never say.
Declan: And even in Greg’s books, he says that Rowley (the writer of this book) is immature.
Declan: So the things he calls scary aren’t actually that scary.
Declan: Such as a child becoming a vampire. A child becoming a werewolf. A child becoming a ghost. Two different people becoming one. A stain on a shirt—
Declan: You get the idea.
Declan: Anyways, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

Declan: Hello gadies and lentleman
Declan: Today I will be doing a book talk on (book title)
Declan: And I like this book because it talks about tornados
TIP: (DO THIS AS A VOICEOVER)
Declan: So the reason why I said tornados is because for some reason tornados have recently been my main interest
Declan: Especially 2011 Joplin Tornado
Declan: (SOUND, Her arms were cut off) (Slowly showing a more concerned face)
Declan: So that’s all I had to talk about
Declan: (Turns around)
Declan: AHHHH

EDITING: (Show: (File) Chasing a THUNDERSTORM.mp4)

Declan: But the Joplin Tornado in general was one of the most costliest tornados ever.
Declan: With damages costing more than $2.8 billon dollars.
Declan: And this book just puts you right in front of the tornado.

A Person
DECLAN: Alright the experiment begins
EXPERIMENT: Take measurements of before and after
DECLAN: So it appears to have lowered
DECLAN: But how much did it lower
DECLAN: (MEASUREMENTS)
DECLAN: So it looks like erosion made it (MEASUREMENTS) shorter
DECLAN: But it didn’t just do that
DECLAN: Erosion caused some significant changes to our model. Such as making dirt more compacted, and the jet carving a river in the model. As water moves it caries dirt with it. Soon a lot of the dirt slips, causing houses to go with the dirt. Plants can help keep this dirt together, so landslides won't happen. Which is why farmers will have a lot plants. This is called cover-crop. Cover-crops are plants that are planted to cover the soil so erosion won't happen. So that's it.
